Full-time care in the Börde district

Full-time care is a central element of the foster care system in the Börde district. It offers children who cannot grow up in their family of origin a permanent and stable home. This form of care goes beyond temporary care and aims to provide children with a long-term family environment in which they can feel safe and secure.

What is full-time care?

In full-time foster care, foster parents take a child into their household and assume responsibility for their daily care, upbringing and support. Unlike short-term care or on-call care, full-time care is designed for the long term, often until the child reaches the age of majority or beyond. The aim is not only to provide the children with a safe environment, but also to promote their individual development.

Who is full-time care suitable for?

Full-time care is aimed at children and young people whose biological parents are unable to look after them properly for various reasons. The reasons can be many and varied, such as:

  • family crises
  • mental or physical illness of the parents
  • addiction problems
  • neglect or abuse

Foster parents help the children to process these difficult experiences and offer them an environment in which they can experience trust, stability and security.

Requirements for foster parents

Foster parents for full-time care should be willing to commit to a child on a long-term basis and offer them a loving home. The following requirements are desirable:

  • Patience and empathy,
  • Stability in your own life situation,
  • Openness for cooperation with the youth welfare office and, if necessary, the family of origin,
  • Willingness for further training and reflection.

It does not matter whether you are married, single or in a same-sex partnership. What matters is your ability to provide a child with a safe and supportive environment.

The role of the family of origin

In full-time care, attempts are also made to maintain contact with the child's family of origin as far as possible and appropriate. The aim is not to break the connection with the biological parents and to give the child a sense of belonging. In this context, foster parents work closely with the youth welfare office to ensure the best possible welfare of the child.

The road to full-time care

The road to full-time care begins with a detailed consultation and application process. Interested parties are first given comprehensive information about the tasks and challenges involved. After a positive aptitude test, which includes interviews, home visits and participation in training courses, you can be approved as a foster parent. The Youth Welfare Office will accompany you every step of the way.

Why full-time care is important

Full-time care offers children who grow up in difficult circumstances a second chance. It enables them to develop confidence and stability, develop their potential and grow into self-confident and resilient personalities.
