Every child has the right to a safe and loving environment in which they can develop healthily. Unfortunately, some children cannot grow up in their family of origin for various reasons. This is exactly where the foster care system comes in: It offers children a stable home on a temporary or permanent basis if their biological parents are temporarily or permanently unable to care for them.
What does foster care mean?
Foster care is an important part of child and youth welfare. Foster families take in children to offer them protection, security and new prospects. Foster care can be temporary or long-term, depending on the individual circumstances of the child and their family of origin.
Responsibilities and goals
The aim of the foster care system in the Börde district is to help children in difficult circumstances. Foster families offer:
- a stable and supportive environment
- support with emotional and social development
- close cooperation with the youth welfare office and other specialist agencies to ensure the best possible care
Who can become a foster family?
People with heart, patience and a sense of responsibility are the basis of every foster family. Regardless of whether you are single, married, with or without children - the important thing is that you are prepared to offer a child a loving home. The Youth Welfare Office will support you throughout the entire process and provide you with training to prepare you for your role.
